Best Online Poker Rooms for Canadians

While American players are having all kinds of trouble playing online poker, everything is still ok for Canadians. Tournament prize pools might be smaller these days, but from the mouths of many Canadian online poker professionals, there are plenty of fish out there and the game has never been so easy since the old Party Poker days. Ahh yes you remember those days where money was coming in non stop and poker was the easiest job in the world.

Thank goodness our government truly embraces “Democracy” and doesn’t try to control the internet like our southern neighbours do.  There are plenty of choices in sites to play on, but here at Canada Poker News we have broken it down to only the top sites that Canadians should play on.

First thing first though, if you need to get funds online, the best payment processor for Canadians is Moneybookers.  It is free and easy to use, withdraws are quick (there is a small fee though), and all the online poker sites do indeed accept deposits and withdrawals via Moneybookers or otherwise known as Skrill.

Here are the best online poker sites for Canadians

Poker Stars – Poker Stars is still the industry leader, the biggest online poker site with the biggest poker tournaments and the largest number of cash game tables at various levels of play.  Promotions pop up all the times, new giveaways, and bonuses.  They are the only poker site with a weekly tournament that boasts a million dollar prize pool.  There are often Canadian only freerolls where you can win tickets to sporting and entertainment events such as the Stanley Cup or regular season NHL games, and even freerolls where only Canadians can enter.  PokerStars sponsored Canadian Poker pros include Daniel Negreanu, Jonathan Duhamel, Greg Debora, and Pat Pezzin.  Signup now and you can get a first time deposit bonus of up to $600.

888 Poker – Play with one of Canada’s greatest athletes of all time, UFC superstar Georges St. Pierre on 888 Poker. Not only that, signup here and receive $8 FREE to try it out, no deposit required!  As one of the oldest online poker rooms in the industry, you are guaranteed to play at a safe place.  Like what you see at 888, deposit and get a 100% up to $400 welcome bonus.

Party Poker – The original big poker site is still a favourite for Canadians to play at.  There are various tournaments and promotions that cater directly to and for Canadians only.  Residents of Canada were able to win tickets to the Stanley Cup 2011 in Vancouver, tickets to UFC 129 in Toronto, and all for FREE!  With a Palladium VIP club and a quarterly million dollar tournament, there are plenty of reasons why you should play at Party Poker.  You can also play with the beautiful Canadian Party Poker Pro Kara Scott.  Signup for Party Poker and you will get a Welcome Bonus of $500.

Bodog Poker – Bodog is probably the most popular site where you can play poker, bet on sports, and play casino games all at the same place.  Known primarily for their sportsbook, it is still a great place to play poker.  Catering mostly towards recreational poker players, you will find less professional players and sharks.  Bodog has a weekly $100k guaranteed tournament with a $162 buyin that hardly ever makes the $100,000 guaranteed prize pool, free money for the taking.  Also play with Canadian Team Bodog member Evelyn Ng.  Join Bodog today as new poker players get up to $1,100 in bonuses.

Lock Poker – has since split from the Merge Poker Network, and now is the flagship site on the new Revolutionary Poker Network (formerly Cake Poker Network)  Lock Poker is a rising poker site.  With great promotions such as the Battle of the Ronin, or the Bluff Poker Challenge, or the weekly $100k guaranteed tournament with only a $109 buyin, there are more than enough reasons to play at Lock Poker.  You can also play with newly signed Canadian Lock Poker Pro Casey Jarzabek.  Enjoy a $750 welcome bonus when you signup for Lock Poker.

Betfair Poker –  A big UK betting site, Betfair has a strong desire to grow in Canada.  A skin of the ongame poker network, Betfair has been promoting various Canada only poker promotions such as free tickets to events, and special poker and betting promotions through freerolls and risk free bets.  Become a member of Betfair Poker and claim a massive $2,500 welcome bonus.

Carbon Poker – The flagship site of the Merge Poker Network, Carbon Poker is the biggest growing site in the online poker world.  Huge promotions such as the Super Money Tree and their generous VIP program have players continuing to play, and play, and play.  There is also a Bad Beat Jackpot that seems to hit very often giving the winning loser a 5 to 6 figure payout each time.  Signup for Carbon Poker today and enjoy a free initial deposit bonus of 100% up to $600.

Titan Poker – The biggest site on the biggest online poker network, the iPoker network, is Titan Poker.  With big tournaments such as the European Championship of Online Poker (ECOOP), or the weekly $200k guaranteed freezeout there is plenty of tournament action.  There is also Canadian only tournaments with added prizes and a Canadian Poker League.  Cash games are also plentiful here with loads of great action during the day.  One of the best Canadian poker players Sorel Mizzi is part of Team Titan.  With a 200% up to $1,000 deposit bonus, that should be a big enough reason to signup for Titan Poker.

Full Tilt Poker – has since been bought out by Poker Stars.  The new Full Tilt Poker should be up and running by Fall 2012.  Stay tuned …

Win a WSOP package at Poker770

Poker770 is putting together a promotion strictly for Canadians.  You can now follow in the footsteps of the first WSOP main event champion from Canada, Johnathan Duhamel, and win a trip to the World Series of Poker.  A total of 7 WSOP $2500 packages will be handed out each month.  This promotion started October 15  but there is still plenty of time to win your seat as this runs all the way until April 15 2011.  Since this is a Canadian only promotion, simply head to the “Canadian Tables” and start playing.  This is a points race which can be earned via a variety of ways.  In addition one extra seat is given to the player who earns the most points during this entire promotion.

Via tournaments, there are two daily $3+0.30 Canadian Warrior tournaments running each daily Mon-Sat at 20:30 and 22:00.  Points are earned depending on your finish (only those who make the money earn points).  The forula for calculating Canadian Warrior points for tournaments is the (square root of your cash) x 30.  For example if you won $81 you would earn 270 Canadian Warrior points.

Via cash games (only counts if you play on either the 6 Canadian Warrior Holdem or 6 Canadian Warrior Omaha cash game tables between 17:00 and 1:00 est), you must be amongst the top 60 net earners to earn points.  60 points for 1st place, 59 points for 2nd, … 1 point for 60th.
