Last April Oliver Baksic took home the title pocketing $118,000 for his efforts.

“The first Poker Pro Canada Classic back in April was a huge success, so we couldn’t wait to hold the second edition,” said Poker Pro Canada Editor-in-Chief John “Johnny Quads” Wenzel. “Four Aces was a terrific venue and I can’t wait to get back there.”

Last year the event attracted 246 players which included famous poker players Mark “P0ker H0″ Kroon, Hollywood Dave Stann, Benjamin Lablond, and many others.

WPT returning to Canada .. Not

edit: Party Poker has removed this from their events page.  Looks like it was a premature listing which may not even happen anymore.

Straight from the Events calender on Party Poker, the owner of the World Poker Tour (WPT), listed for the confirmed schedule for the World Poker Tour Season 10 is the return of the WPT North American Poker Championships. (NAPC) Taking place at the Fallsview Casino and Resort in Niagara Falls, this event will run from October 10-22, 2011.  With this event spanning over 13 days, it looks very promising to be an actual tournament series like the Fallsview Poker Classic.  Rumours of an eventual WPT return to Niagara or even Canada have always been premature, but this looks like it could be true.  Though it is not listed on the current WPT website.

Satellites for the WPT North American Poker Classic should be running soon on Party Poker.  More WPT Niagara news will be posted as they become available.

Remember Party Poker still has rake free poker tournaments for another 2 weeks.  Sign up today and receive a $600 bonus!

WPT back in Montreal 2 times in 2013

How do you top the record setting largest tournament field for a $1,000+ entry here in Canada? You come back with not one, but two more opportunities in 2013 for players to compete in a World Poker Tour event at Playground Poker Club, located just 20 minutes from downtown Montreal.

Last November, nearly 1,200 players ponied up $3000+$300 to participate in WPT Montreal, creating a massive prize-pool of roughly $3.4 million dollars and a top prize worth more than $775,000; the largest 1st place poker The star studded field included All Time Money tournament leaders Antonio Esfandiari and Daniel Negreanu, past WPT Champions David Williams and Gavin Smith, top female players Xuan Liu and Isabelle Mercier, young guns Mike “Timex” McDonald and Mike “SirWatts” Watson as well as 2012 Global Index POY leaders Dan Smith and Marvin Rettenmaier…So how do you make the third largest field in World Poker Tour history shine even brighter?

You give the players what they want and bring in the cameras in for a full televised WPT Montreal Main Event from November 29th to December 5th, you bump the stakes just enough to a $3,500 + $350 and you look to make room for even more players to participate. Throw in the very real possibility of adding a “High Roller” side event for poker’s elite and you just should have the right recipe to see Canadian poker history made once again.

Players won’t have to wait until fall to take their shot at a Canadian WPT title however, now that would just be cruel! Instead, they will want to start making plans and qualifying for the WPT Montreal Canadian Spring Championship from May 3rd to 9th at Playground Poker Club. The $3,000 + $300 Main Event will feature a live stream of the same caliber that covered Jonathan Roy’s victory in 2012 and both this and the November event will be Main WPT tour stops, awarding Player Of the Year points and the signature Championship Belt along with their name engraved on the coveted WPT Trophy.

In 2012, hundreds of players gained entry to WPT Montreal via satellites, with online qualifiers far exceeding expectations an guarantees.

Stay tuned for more details on Party Poker qualifiers and full schedules to come!

2011 BC Poker Championships

The 2011 British Columbia Poker Championships (BCPC or BC Poker Championships) one of the marquee poker tournaments in Canada has been tentatively scheduled for

October 23 – November 9, 2011

This year there will be 4 events at the 2011 BC Poker Championships, which is double from that of 2010.  The BCPC will once again be held at the River Rock Casino and Resort in Richmond B.C.

Tentative 2011 BCPC Schedule

Oct 25-28, $550 Bounty event
Oct 30-31 $1,100 event
Nov 2-5 $3,000 main event
Nov 7-9 $5,000 high rollers event

The main event will likely include 2x day 1s, followed by day 2, and the day 3 final table or so.   4 events is a much better improvement over 2010 as players now have a couple additional options, and visitors do not feel wasted traveling for just 1 or 2 events.  The schedule dates have also been revised so they no longer fall on U.S. thanksgiving though this was partially done as the BC Lions are also hosting the Grey Cup during the same period late November.

The BCPC annually hosts one of the biggest prize pools for a poker tournament in Canada.  It is often played by many famous and popular professional poker players, including Canadian superstar Daniel Negreanu who won it all in 2008.  Last year’s winner was another Canadian by the name of Eric Place from Halifax NS.  There were also some scandalous winners in the past.  Sophon Sek who won the 2009 main event was arrested shortly after in connection with manslaughter charges from 2007.

As these dates and events are still tentative (according to the River Rock July tournament schedule), the confirmed information will be posted on the 2011 BC Poker Championship page.
